How much electricity does a tumble dryer consume?

At Tech Guy SA we have been testing our everyday appliances to figure out what their power consumption is. These tests will also allow us to calculate how much it will cost to run each appliance in your household. We always get told that a tumble dryer eats electricity, so we were curious to see what the actual consumption is.
We will use the following devices.
- Red Pole Energy Wattmeter.
- Hisense 8kg Dryer
- Supply Voltage (V/Hz) 220-240V/50Hz
- Heating Power 1800W
- R3.51 incl. VAT per unit.
We used the dryer on the jeans cycle which lasts 1h30m minutes, with crease-resist selected. During this drying cycle the dryer consumed 2.121W.
This means it costs about R7.44 to run this tumble dryer.
We’ll be running these tests every so often, so keep checking back to see what device is coming next.
